I'm sure there will be a ton so let's start by asking them in this thread and I'll reply as soon as I can. This will also help us develop our new FAQ's for the site.

| Marise, if its any consolation the google map puts me 300 miles away from where i live and sometimes in two places at once. | |

| You're right! I just checked by the satellite feature and it puts me by a bunch of trees in a park off the freeway. The park I live in is nowhere near a freeway
Thanks Doc, you've put my mind at ease.

| the google map thingy thinks I live on an airport runway.. that MIGHT explain the noise outside but I always figured it was just the neighbors.. Once it said Foggy lived in California.. personally I think it mixed Foggy up with Arnold Schwarzenegger (that happens alot) I have no way of knowing HOW to hide the map thingy but there are many people I see online that it doesn't show.. perhaps one of them can tell you.. | |

Thinking about this, google can only pin point your whereabouts if you have entered your town or post code in your profile, so presumably removing that info will disable google!

| no Foggy, I have entered neither into my proflie.. Yet it shows me (well, 12 miles away from where I live..)
this version of Google goes off your IP server, it tracks the closest LARGE tower to where you live.. usually.. When you use Google maps (not the PoetShare version) you put in someone's exact address and it will show you their house, but here it lacks for an address so it runs your IP number.. And those with dial-up have several IP numbers so that is why it puts you in different places..

| Well, well Daniel. If I were a suspicious person, I'd wonder how you got to know the inner workings of the map in question... and since I am a suspicious person, I do wonder how you got to know these things?? And don't say you googled it, my mind could not fathom such a conspiracy. | |

| We have a huge list that we add to when we think of words that might be fun or challenging for the Brain Box. Then Harklight and I take turns picking words out of the list for the BB when it's time to change it. The Brain Box is one of my favorite things about Poet Share. Sometimes the words just go together easily, sometimes it's more of a challenge. | |

| Cari, There's a link for internet hyperlinks and to the left of that a different one for videos (such as youtube links). You simply paste it in there and it should work as you intend. You will know you have the right one because it will actually have the little youtube symbol above where you paste the link.
Let me know if this doesn't help. Michael

| Is there any way the "Notes" in our profiles could be made to appear under our profiles instead of third down inder the awards and our status? Any message relating to the Avatar seems divorced from the Avatar being so low down on the list. | |

| Notes are not often intended to, or do, relate to avatars, Foggy: yours is one of few. They will appear further from avatars with more awards you receive. As most people prefer their awards to be dominant, I doubt we'll change that. To minimise the amount of member info, you could limit "Latest Poem" to the one that is your latest. H x | |

| Regarding FUN POINTS:
Firstly may I congratulate the staff on such a good idea. It does however pr-empt pages of questions, here are but a few.
In the explanation of fun points Jamie wrote......
"How" you earn them is actually quite an intricate thing. Fun points are earned according to, well, the most approximate measure I can think of would be the quality and quantity of your participation here at Poet Share."
My first question is who asseses the quality of a poem or reply? Isnt that an awful lot of work for admin, and are any of them open to bribery?
Second question, can I save up my fun points to get a new car? like green stamps?
Thats it for now.

| Basically, Foggy, the points accumulate automatically. Only when it is brought to our attention that someone is abusing the system would we take a look and see if a downward adjustment is necessary. Cars? Green stamps? Who do I look like, Bob Barker? | |

Cars? Green stamps? Who do I look like, Bob Barker? So if i read this correctly our uploads are to be assesed for quality by a computer Ive seen that BOT around a few times will it be her/ him? do they have a sense of humour? I shant sleep tonight now. Bill ( i hope these questions are racking up fun points)

Well, no. If you take the time to read the Fun Points Faq you'll see that it's one FP per poem or write, and two per comment. The system is automatic. The only quality judgements will be done by H and I. [qutoe]Bill ( i hope these questions are racking up fun points)[/quote] Nope. Again, read the FAQ. FP only accumulate in writing boards.

| Jamie. rest assured i read all there is to read, bringing my years of legal experience to bear in searching for loopholes, to gain that miniscule advantage over my fellow poets here (who become utter rif raf where competitions and fun points are concerned)
But one serious question, will we be able to remove/ upload our own fun graphics? what i mean is supposing we have bought 6 with our fun points, and we can only display 3, then can we swap them around occasionaly? Can we also make our own subject to approval. Or if we get bored with one can we change it for another without a points penalty. is there a discount in the points cost of graphics for the over 60's? I mean lets face it im not going to be around long enough to earn enough points for stickying poems. Can i pass on unused points in my last will and testament? Oh so many questions, so little time.

Foggy Ah, my dear Foggy, I've anticipated these questions, you see. The answer is no. lol Only H and I can change the badges displayed. That won't change, period. You may certainly request that certain graphics of your own be made into badges for your profile, but all badges must be personally approved by H or I and we will then enter them into your profile. And every new graphic available for a member's profile will have a FP cost, regardless of whether they've made them or we have. No senior discount. But remember, H and I can give additional FP at any time, should the madness move us to do so. ^^ Should you have Traded In FP for more than the allowed amount of Personal Badges, you may request that H or I change them for you. If we have the time we probably will, within reason. I mean we can't be changing them willy-nilly for every person every day, that's not reasonable. But we can change them back and forth once in a while, without you having to use extra FP. In looking over my notes, I misunderstood you I think and my answer was wrong in this part so let me correct it now. Each time you change Badges it will cost you FP. You'll just have to leave more comments to earn more FP! This is explicitly laid out in the part that talks about the Post and Karma Badges--we require you to trade in one Badge in order to get the next one. And no, there will be no swapping of Fun Points right now. We may allow that in the future; I'm already looking at examples of how that plays out in some other forums, but I think it's something best held in reserve as a special thing--I was thinking of allowing Member Challenges to offer a certain amount of FP as a reward, for example. And I'm always willing to listen to ideas members may have for things to do with Fun Points. Send me a PM if you have any. That goes for anyone.

| OK......so I'm new and just discoverying this site. Trying to figure out how to move around it and where everything is and what everything is for. How do I know what "classification" of writing fits in what board? Is there someplace that describes what is appropriate to place in this board or that board? Thanks........I'm so excited. | |

| Mmm, well the Poetry boards are for poetry only, and the Chapter-stories and One-shot stories are for those types of stories, and the Smorgasboard is for everything else. Most poetry boards have a short description on them; if you ask we'll let you know as best we can. At worst, things can always be moved. | |

Had We But Worlds Enough, And Time . . . | November 5th 2013, 11:57 am by Jamie | I never wanted to write this post. Life, however, brings to us changes of necessity, not changes we want.
Unfortunately, and as evidenced by the past few months' activities, I do not have the time to properly govern the use of this site anymore. While there are visitors every day, the posts by members are becoming fewer and farther between, and the staff participation is just as sparse.
